Seven More California Ambassadors Join Census Campaign

Additions to California’s unprecedented Census campaign bring total number of ambassadors to 21

SACRAMENTO – The California For All – Census 2020 Campaign today announced the addition of seven Census Digital Ambassadors – young, diverse influencers from the arts and entertainment industries – who will help reach, educate, and empower the hardest-to-count Californians to participate in the 2020 Census, which is now under way.

Californians began receiving invitations from the U.S. Census Bureau on March 12, marking the beginning of the historic count that will determine the distribution of billions of dollars in federal funding and state and political representation for the next decade.

The following individuals have committed to leveraging their platforms and voices to promote Census participation among hard-to-count Californians:

• Angela Kim, blogger and creator of Mommy Diary;
• Daisha Graf, actor and performance artist;
• Rebecca Black, singer-songwriter and YouTube personality;
• Vincent Marcus, impressionist and internet personality;
• Jesus Garcia, actor and internet personality;
• Ashley Lukashevsky, visual artist and illustrator; and
• Cara Santana, actress, entrepreneur, and producer.

These ambassadors join fourteen other Census ambassadors, including Sacramento Kings star Harrison Barnes and actor Danny Trejo, who joined the campaign earlier this year.

Actor and internet personality Jesus Garcia: “I understand the power of my voice and ‘this kid who just loves tacos’ is so proud to have been chosen as a California Census Ambassador to encourage my followers the importance of participation.”

YouTuber & singer Rebecca Black: “As a singer-songwriter and California native, I am proud to be a California Census Ambassador. My goal is to encourage my fans and followers listening to my music to participate in the Census to make sure EVERYONE is counted.”

California is making our voice heard for the 2020 Census – we must be counted” said Ditas Katague, Director of the California Complete Count – Census 2020 Office.

Census Ambassadors were selected for their ability to reach the hardest-to-count communities in California, using their influence on social media channels to encourage their audiences to participate in the Census. They join a historically diverse coalition led by the California Complete Count – Census 2020 Office and comprising hundreds of regional and statewide partners. The state’s comprehensive outreach and multi-media campaign encourages all Californians to participate in the Census as soon as possible and provides them with culturally sensitive and in-language support.

In light of COVID-19 concerns, it is important that every Californian knows they can respond to the Census online at https://my2020census.gov or by phone by calling the numbers available below, or by mail if they received a paper form.

California will continue outreach and education efforts in a way that protects the health and safety of all Californians. That includes shifting toward phone banks, webinars and events where partners can continue to give the state’s hard-to-reach communities the information and the support they need to participate in the Census with confidence.

The California Complete Count – Census 2020 Office

Once each decade, the U.S. Census Bureau attempts to count every person in the United States. Californians will begin receiving invitations to participate in the Census starting March 12, 2020. This enumeration will be the first to rely heavily on online responses. California leaders have invested $187.2 million toward a statewide outreach and communication campaign. All lines provide live customer service representative support providing information about the 2020 Census and assistance with the questionnaire.

• Callers to the English and Spanish language lines will be routed through the Interactive Voice Response system prior to being transferred to a customer service representative.
