The Census is happening now! All Californians can now complete the 2020 Census online, by phone or by mail. A Census ID is not required for households to respond online or by phone. 

Beginning in August, Census enumerators will be out in the field. Census workers will be knocking on doors to follow up with households that have not yet responded to the Census and are there to help. To learn more on how to identify a Census worker, click here

The California Complete Count – Census 2020 Office is providing updates on the novel coronavirus (COVID-19). The State of California is acting quickly to protect public health and safety in response to novel coronavirus (COVID-19). This is a quickly evolving situation. The Census Office continues to get status updates of COVID-19 across the state with the focus being on mitigation. Each community is affected differently and Census outreach cannot be a one-size-fits-all response. Learn more at

California Self Response Rate Map

The California Complete Count – Census 2020 Response Rate Map shows self-response rate data provided by the U.S. Census Bureau, as well as information about census tracts and fact sheet links. Click the “About” icon in the map app to learn more. Self-response rate data will be updated daily.
